The aim of the Military Affairs series is to add to a nationwide debate on the security policies of India. And the intellectual pluralism that stems from this could, in turn, provide India's politico-bureaucratic elite an idea of the right direction. Until recently a large number of India's politicians and the people they represent, were only interested in regional issues within India's border. But that has begun to change. Across India, the media, a number of academics and intellectuals have started to debate issues of national security and military affairs. This is the start of a healthy tradition in a country, which only recently was said to be without a tradition on strategic thought.
