The aim of the Military Affairs series is to add to a nationwide debate on the security policies of India. And the intellectual pluralism that stems from this could, in turn, provide India's politico-bureaucratic elite an idea of the national mood on military issues and enable them to direct the country's policies in the right direction. Until recently a large number of India's politicians, and the people they represent were only interested in regional issues within India's border. But that has begun to change. Across India, the media, a number of academics and intellectuals have started to debate issues of national security and military affairs, specially so, in an era when India faces and fights terrorism unleashed by Pakistan. This is the start of a healthy tradition in a country, which only recently was said to be without a tradition on strategic thought.
